With the people we support, we take a low-key, discrete and sensitive approach. Our referrals will come from front-line agencies which assess the needs of people but also directly as a result of the posters and fliers which we put up at church groups, mosques and community centres.
We deliver hampers made up of food items that give individuals and families a little bit of hope because they know that there are people who care. It's just one less thing that they have to worry about/
We'll also work with existing food banks to run initiatives where we can provide hot meals and a little companionship.
It costs us just £15 to prepare a hamper for an individual or £30 for a family. These typically include a weeks worth of items such as:
- Powdered milk
- Fruit juice
- Sugar, salt
- Tinned food, tomatoes, vegetables, meat and fish
- Cereals, rice and pasta
- Biscuits and cakes
- Tinned puddings
- Tea and coffee
For now we've started in Birmingham, but you can expect to see MFP initiatives in your local area very soon.
